WHY I’M BETTING ON MYSELF AGAIN—AND WHY YOU SHOULD TOO

Hey Everyone,

After nine years in the NFL, I stepped away from the game and faced a question a lot of people wrestle with—whether you’re an athlete, entrepreneur, or just someone who’s achieved success in one area of life:
What’s next?
For me, the answer wasn’t retirement.
It was reinvention.
I didn’t want to coast on past wins. I wanted to build something that gave me ownership, freedom, and the power to create long-term wealth on my terms. That’s why I made the choice to bet on myself again—this time in business.
Since retiring, I’ve built a private lending company, invested in dozens of real estate deals, launched my own holding company, and created multiple income streams. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it.
And here’s what I’ve learned that I think can help you too:
1. Betting on yourself doesn’t mean being reckless—it means being intentional.
Create a plan. Know your numbers. Play to your strengths. You don’t need to take wild swings. You need to stack smart decisions.
2. You don’t need to build it all at once—but you do need to start.
For me, it was one rental property. Then a loan. Then a newsletter. The momentum compounds once you take the first step.
3. You don’t need to have it all figured out—you just need to control what you can.
That’s why I doubled down on private lending in Arizona. I can control who I lend to, the structure of each deal, and the speed of my capital. I’m not dependent on market hype or timing.
4. You can’t outsource conviction.
There’s no substitute for clarity. The more you define what you want, the more confidently you can build toward it. For me, that meant leaning into what I know: cash flow, Arizona real estate, and long-term ownership.
Here’s the truth:
You don’t need a nine-year NFL career to start betting on yourself.
You just need a game plan.
My mission now is to help others design theirs. Whether it’s through The Capital Edge, my books, YouTube, or our lending company—I want to be a resource for people ready to build something real.
Because the best investments you’ll ever make are the ones you make in yourself.
Let’s build,
DK 💰
